We knew it couldn’t last forever, but I am still sad at the upcoming retirement of an all-time classic stamp set from Stampin’ Up! — Lovely as a Tree. It has graced the catalogs of so many paper crafters since 2001 — 18 years! It will be retiring on June 3, and will surely be a valuable treasure for years to come!
Enjoy some samples by artisans over the years. And if you don’t have it yet, now is the time to get it, while supplies last, as it will only go up in value, and be way overpriced on sites such as E-Bay once it retires! Click below to go shopping with me!
What is May Day?
In some parts of the United States, May Baskets are made for May Day, a celebration of Spring. May Day Baskets are small baskets usually filled with flowers or treats and left at someone’s doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away before the receiver can catch them and give them a ‘kiss!’
I remember making May baskets as a little girl. We’d fill little paper cups with handles fashioned on them, and then fill with candy. We’d climb into the car, and my mom would drive us around the neighborhood. We’d stop at a friend’s house, run up to their front door, ring the doorbell, and leave the basket, running back to the car as fast as we could!
According to the NPR, “Perhaps considered quaint now, in decades past May Basket Day — like the ancient act of dancing around the maypole — was a widespread rite of spring in the United States.”
We made our May Day baskets out of paper cups with pipe cleaner handles. I made a couple of May Day baskets using the Sweet Cups from Stampin’ Up! along with some spring-like Designer Series papers. I used two punches to punch out the butterflies and daisies for my handles. All supplies are found below, where you can just click on the products and go shopping with me!
Whether or not you practice the rite of Spring called May Day, I’m happy to be experiencing warmer weather and seeing signs of spring up in Northern Minnesota!
Have a blessed Easter, one and all!

I LOVED creating these fun little baskets in all the gorgeous colors of the Gingham Gala Designer Series papers. Thanks to Pam Kowalczyk for the inspiration!
These baskets are super easy to make! Start with a 6 by 6″ piece of cardstock. Score the paper at 2″ on all four sides. Cut four pieces of Designer Series Paper (I used Gingham Gala) into 1 3/4″ squares. Using a scissors, cut up two sides of the middle score line. (See photo below) Attach the DSP squares to the four corners.
Fold all the score lines on the card stock square. Cut a long strip of card stock at 3/4″ by 7″. If you’d like ( I didn’t do it on these), cut a smaller strip of coordinating DSP at 7″ by 3/4″ and glue onto the long strip for the handle.
Bring the corners of the baskets together on one side (see photo below) and make sure all the corners cover each other. Bring in the handle as well and staple together. (Remember the daisies will cover the staples on one side. You can also use a hole punch and a brad if you prefer.)
Stamp two daisy images in a coordinating color (see product list below) and then use the Daisy Punch to punch out the two daisies. Adhere the two daisies together and then adhere to the baskets. Tie coordinating ribbon to the basket and fill with Easter grass if desired! So fun and so cute!! Click on any of the supplies below to shop with me!
Welcome to the Pals’ April Blog Hop. We’re so glad you’re here because we love to put our ”Families First!” Our Design Team created beautiful projects to inspire you. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.
My mom, a retired teacher, has always been special to our entire family. She only lives about 1/4 mile from me, and at 83, she’s still going strong, involved in church and community volunteer activities.
I made this project for my mom as a Mother’s Day Gift Box. Inside the box will nestle a Gift Certificate to our local garden nursery, where my husband and I will be taking her soon for her spring flower needs. I already can’t wait!
To make this project, I wrapped two panels of Designer Series Papers around the Kraft box, one at 3″ and one at 2 1/2″ wide. Both the Petal Promenade and the Floral Romance papers blend so beautifully. I took a scrap of Floral Romance DSP and stamped the sentiment from the Incredible Like You Stamp Set in Mossy Meadow ink, then punched it out with the Pretty Label Punch. Then I did more punching! I punched out two butterflies in Glimmer Paper using the Butterfly Duet Punch, and some leaves in Mossy Meadow card stock and Vellum card stock using the Leaf Punch.
Then I put it all together: I wrapped some ribbon around the box and tied a large bow. I attached the leaves to the back of the punched sentiment and mounted it with dimensionals. Then I added the butterflies and some Artisan Pearls. So easy to create! See the bottom of this post to go shopping with me for all the supplies you need to make your own gift box!
I can’t wait for Mother’s Day to honor my mom with this Gift Box! Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful mothers!
More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Don’t forget to show us some love by commenting on our creations. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 8, 2019, when our Hoppin’ Pals share their “More Than One Score” projects. Don’t miss the fun!
