Pals July Blog Hop: Mixing it Up!

2019-pbh July

Welcome to the Pals’ July  Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here because we made some great projects that are “Mixing It Up” –  adding texture that will really take your projects up a notch – or two! You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I may sound like a broken record, but I will reiterate what a GREAT source our catalogs are.  As you page through the catalog, carefully look at each project and ask yourself what you might take as inspiration from that project.

Sweetly Swirled 3 - Leaf Trinkets - Embossing Paste - Grapefruit Grove - Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I was looking for inspiration on texture, and since I already owned Embossing Paste, and had just purchased the “Sweetly Swirled” stamp set, I honed in on the project found on p. 57 of the 2019-20 Annual Catalog, the photo on the upper right of the page.  Instead of the Copper Tin, I decided to try my hand at a card!  Many of the elements are CASE’d exactly, but I will point out some differences.

Instead of the tin, I started with a card base of Crumb Cake measuring 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″, onto which I adhered a panel of Vellum Card Stock 1/4″ smaller — I wanted the plain Vellum cardstock as a base so the So Saffron Vellum would show its true color.

From there, I cut a panel of the Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock to 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″.  I mixed a TINY bit of Grapefruit Grove Ink Refill and added it to some Embossing Paste.  I used one of the Pattern Party Decorative Masks to create a background of little diamonds. I love the texture it creates!

Sweetly Swirled Woven Background - Leaf Trinkets - Embossing Paste - Grapefruit Grove - Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

While that vellum panel dried, I took the super cute Sweetly Swirled Stamp Set and stamped numerous flowers in Grapefruit Grove on a scrap of Whisper White card stock, and some leaves in Old Olive, and fussy cut them all out. You can create any kind of bouquet you’d like!  Here is that sweet stamp set, new in the 2019-20 Annual Catalog:

Sweetly Swirled Stamp Set I then punched out some leaves in the Old Olive Vellum and some sprigs with the Sprig punch in Soft Suede.  I then stamped the smaller oval design from the stamp set onto Whisper White, using Crumb Cake ink, stamped off once.  I cut it out using the Layering Ovals Dies.

Sweetly Swirled Close Up - Leaf Trinkets - Embossing Paste - Grapefruit Grove - Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I took a scrap of the Grapefruit Grove Vellum and heat embossed the ‘Thank You’ sentiment with Copper Embossing Powder. I cut banner ends using the Triple Banner Punch.  Inside the white oval, I used a small bit of adhesive to adhere the vellum sentiment to the middle.

Once the Embossing Paste panel was dry, I adhered it to the card panel, attached the white oval with the vellum sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and then built my flower sprays.  I added two copper Leaf Trinkets to keep the copper accents going, added some Basic Sequins, and finally tied two lengths of Linen Thread about the top of the card.  There you have it!

  1. Oh, I love this card, Mary! I was hoping someone would do embossing paste and you even colored it! Great project that you CASEd and made even nicer than the catalog.

  2. Mary, this card is fabulous! It reminds me of a gorgeous floral basket all wrapped up on the front of a card. Thanks for sharing 🙂
