Healing Hugs and Add Some Hope!

Hi again —

I hope your weekend was the best ever!  We had a Celebration Sunday at our church to honor our retiring pastor — 25 years in our congregation!  How does one begin to say thank you for all he and his wife have done for us?  Well, I made a card, and hoped I would be able to express what I wanted to say.

Healing Hugs 3 - Cross of Hope - Pearlized Doilies - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I used a card base of Coastal Cabana and then cut a panel of Whisper White 3 1/4″ wide and 5″ deep.  On that panel, I stamped one rose from the Healing Hugs stamp set in full strength Coastal Cabana.  Just look at this gorgeous stamp set, and its unique rose and leaf.  These sets are called “DISTINKTIVE” because of its photorealistic effect.

Healing Hugs stamp set

On a scratch sheet of paper, I stamped another rose and fussy cut it out to use as a mask.  I then covered the rose I stamped with the ‘scratch paper rose’  and stamped two roses in Pool Party around and over the ‘masked’ rose.  This gives the illusion that one rose is in back of the other.  I stamped some leaves in Lemon Lime Twist, and then some background pattern from the stamp set on both the white and the Coastal Cabana paper to add a little interest and texture.

Healing Hugs Close Up - Cross of Hope - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

Special meaning for the sentiment:  Our church name is HOPE Lutheran, so I stamped the sentiment “Hold on to Hope” to with a double meaning in mind.  Behind the banner sentiment, I added a half of a pearlized doily and a strip of Wood Textures Designer Series paper.  And done!

Below is a list of supplies I used to make this project.  Simply click on any product, and you’ll be shopping with me!  Two beautiful stamp sets!

Don’t forget to add this Host Code to your order of over $50, and you’ll receive a FREE embellishment of your choice from p. 197 of the new Annual Catalog.  Simply place your order and email me at marya2hanson@gmail.com to let me know your choice!  The offer is good through June 29!  Host Code:  QECNQGTF

Treasures in a Tin & a New Tool from Stampin’ Up!

I couldn’t wait to tell you about a new box of treasures from the new catalog — the Darling Label Punch Box! This box is truly a collection of treasures.  Here’s what you get:  a six-piece stamp set, a cute label punch, two Ink Spots, a clear acrylic stamping block, and of course, the beautiful tin that it all comes in.  The tin is a very generous 8″ X 8″ square.

Darling label punch set

Here is a card I made from this box:

Darling Label Punch Box - Lovely Lipstick - In Color 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin - Stampin' Up!

This card is made from a base of Lovely Lipstick card stock.  Notice how I not only used the Label Punch for the sentiment, which I colored with Aqua Painters; I punched some labels out in Lovely Lipstick and put them randomly on the front of the card.

I put a strip of In Color 6″X 6″ 2018-2020 Designer Series Paper down the middle, and embellished with the new 1/8″ Lovely Lipstick Grosgrain Ribbon and some iridescent sequins that I sprinkled randomly across the card front.

So fun!  The supplies I used are at the bottom of this post!  Don’t miss out on this Tin of Treasures!

Rooted In Nature and a Beautiful Wedding Bouquet

I am going to the wedding of a fun young couple tonight, who both love nature.  We helped decorated their reception hall this morning with burlap, daisies, candles, and pieces of oak accents for the tables.  Fun, huh?

So I knew I needed to make a special wedding card for them!  I used the Rooted in Nature bundle from the new Stampin’ Up Annual Catalog.  Have you seen the beautiful natural stamps and dies?  There is no limit to the occasions you could address with this bundle!

Here is the card I came up with, and it was SUCH fun to create!

Rooted in Nature Bundle - Beautiful Bouquet - Wedding Card - Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I used a card base of Very Vanilla card stock, and then cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ panel and ran it through the Big Shot using the Woodland Textured Embossing folder.   I cut a panel of Very Vanilla at 3 1/4″ x 4″ and then a panel of Tranquil Tide to fit behind that exactly 1/8″ larger.  On the Vanilla panel, I stamped large and small leaves from the stamp set, stamping off twice before adding them to the panel.

Rooted in Nature - Beautiful Bouquet 2 - Tranquil Tide - Crumb Cake - Wedding Card - Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing folder - Stitched Shapes Framelits - Mary Hanson - Up North

I used the framelits to create the leaves, a large and small, by first running them through the Big Shot with the embossing dies, and then running them through with the cutting dies.  Don’t you love the effect?  I stamped the sentiment on a circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies, and then put the card together.  Do you like the natural effect of the burlap ribbon and linen thread?  LOVE these colors together!!

The Rooted in Nature bundle is already extremely popular in the new catalog.  Don’t miss your chance to start creating with your own bundle!

If you do order this month with a total order of over $50 in product, please use this Host Code in order to get a FREE GIFT from me!  That gift will be a choice of ANY of the embellishments on p. 197 of your catalog.  You MUST use the Host Code, and then email me with your FREE GIFT CHOICE!  I can’t wait to see what you order!  Host Code:  QECNQGTF

Pals June Blog Hop: Pick a “B”

2018-pbh-lltwist- June 2018 200 x 200

Welcome to the Pals June 2018 Blog Hop. This month we’re going to Pick a “B,” Projects for Babies, Birthdays or Brides, that is. Be on the lookout for creations using new products from Stampin’ Up!

You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

My “B” is a BIRTHDAY CARD and is all about my color choice for this project.  I am so happy that BLACKBERRY BLISS has returned to the Stampin’ Up! Color Line-Up, and I know I’m not alone!  Can I get an AMEN! My card uses the combination of Blackberry Bliss, Mint Macaron, and Sahara Sand, along with Copper Embossing accents.

Rooted in Nature Bundle - Copper Embossing Powder - Mint Macaron - Blackberry Bliss - Copper Thread - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I started out with a card base of Sahara Sand cardstock, cut to 5 1/2″ by 8 1/2,” scored at 4 1/4.”  I cut a panel of Mint Macaron cardstock to 5 1/4″ by 4″.  On that panel, I used Mint Macaron to stamp the larger leaf pattern all around the edge, stamping off the panel as well.  I adhered that Mint Macaron panel to the card base.

I cut a panel of Blackberry Bliss at 4 1/2″ by 3 1/4.”  I then cut a panel of Sahara Sand cardstock at 4 3/8″ by 3 1/8.”  On that panel, I used Mint Macaron stamp pad to stamp the smaller leaf pattern all over the panel – both at full strength and stamped off once – and then adhered it to the Blackberry Bliss panel.

Rooted in Nature Bundle 2 - Mint Macaron - Blackberry Bliss - Copper Embossing Powder - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

I used my Big Shot to cut the largest circle from the Stitched Shaped framelits in Blackberry Bliss.  After rubbing with the Embossing Buddy, I stamped the tree image from the stamp set with Versamark, and then used Copper Embossing Powder to emboss.  While I was at it, I took a wooden embellishment from the 5th Anniversary March Paper Pumpkin kit, coated it with Versamark, and then copper embossing powder, and embossed it!

Nature's Roots Bundle - Close Up - Mint Macaron - Blackberry Bliss - Copper Embossing Powder - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I used the embossing dies to put details onto the two sizes of leaves.  I then took the cutting leaf dies and ran through the Big Shot again.  This is such a beautiful effect — the leaves are so realistic!

Finally, I used Blackberry Bliss ink to stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Sahara Sand and then punched two scraps with the Tailored Punch — the sentiment I just stamped, and a Mint Macaron.  I put the card together, adding some Copper Thread and two Faceted Dots — they’re so cute!

Rooted in Nature - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I truly LOVE this new bundle — everything about it! Shop with me by clicking on any of the products below, or by clicking on the “Let’s Go Shopping” button at the top of this page!  Rooted in Nature is bound to become a classic, and it’s just the start of what’s in this gorgeous new catalog!

The Abstract Impressions bundle caught my eye from the first time I saw it.  Its artistic images make it easy to create all kinds of floral bouquets and vignettes.

Abstract Impressions - Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies - Coastal Cabana - Lemon Lime Twist - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

This card is built on one of the new colors that was an old favorite a few years ago:  Coastal Cabana.  I used Coastal Cabana ink to stamp the stripes across the background, using the abstract stripe stamp in the stamp set.  I used a panel of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock to make a larger banner, cut to 3″ wide and whatever length you prefer.  I used Whisper White Thick cardstock cut to 2 3/4″ by 4″, and stamped the little garden of abstract flowers.  I used Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green (another new color!) to make the stems and then stamped with Balmy Blue on the round part of the flowers and Coastal Cabana ink to accent.

Abstract Impressions Bundle

I cut an intricate corner die from the bundle in Coastal Cabana cardstock and cut it in half, positioning both pieces so they would stick out a little on the sides.

Artistic Impressions - Springtime Impressions Thinliets Dies - Close Up Coastal Cabana - Tailored Punch - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I stamped out the sentiment from the stamp set in Coastal Cabana and then punched it out with the Tailored Tag Punch.  I added a strip of Whisper White 3/8″ Classic Ribbon in a loop, and then embellished the bouquet with some rhinestone embellishments.  Done!  And so cute!!  I love these colors together!

Artistic Impressions - Delightful Impressions Thinlits Dies - 2 - Coastal Cabana - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I posted this dragonfly card earlier in May.  Here’s another example of the way the florals can mix together in endless combinations.  Add in all our beautiful new colors, and the possibilities are endless!

Rooted In Nature “You Are Wonderful” Card

Did you know that the longest running Stampin’ Up! stamp set is the classic Lovely As A Tree set? The brand new “Rooted In Nature” stamp set and “Nature’s Roots” Framelits are beautiful compliments to this versatile, best-selling set! I predict that this new bundle will be an instant classic, as well!

Big rooted in nature

This a large bundle—16 fantastic images with 12 coordinating dies!  The lovely trees, leaves, and sentiments will be the foundation for all kinds of cards, from thinking of you to thank you, birthday to sympathy, even Christmas cards…the elements combine to create an outdoorsy, natural look. They’ll be fun to use for a variety of techniques, too!  This is a must-have for your new catalog Wish List!

Nature's Poem - Rooted in Nature - You Are Wonderful - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

Background Basics—Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper pack has gorgeous leafy patterns that make excellent backgrounds for the Rooted In Nature elements. I adhered a 4″ x 5-1/4″ panel of the Tranquil Tide linen and leaf pattern to a Crumb Cake card base. Can I just say that this color combination is AMAZING!  Love it!

Wonderful Wood—The base of this collage focal point starts by stamping the dissected tree trunk image in Soft Suede ink onto Whisper White cardstock cut to 3″ x 4.”  I stamped two leaves of different sizes onto a scrap of Mint Macaron and the new Mango melody in their coordinating ink colors.  I used the Big Shot to cut those leaf shapes out.  I used a 1″ strip of a coordinating DSP in the striped pattern and punched a banner end to it with the Banner Triple Punch.

Leaf Loveliness— One special thing about this bundle is the Coordinating Embossing Dies.  Yes, you heard me right — embossing dies.  You can cut the leaf shapes out and then run through again to create beautiful textured leaf patterns ON the leaves.

Finishing Touches—I stamped the Rooted In Nature sentiment in Tranquil ink onto a 3-1/2″ x 1″ piece of Whisper White cardstock and then popped it up with Dimensionals.  I adorned the sentiment with a 1/4″ Copper Trim bow attached with a Glue Dot, then added a couple of buttons from the True Gentleman’s buttons set.  Lastly, I added a couple of Mint Macaron Faceted Dots — you will LOVE these!

Don’t forget the Retiring Items and the Upcoming Safari!  I can’t wait!

A Sneak Peek at Varied Vases for Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!  Today I am giving you a sneak peek at a bundle from the brand new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog called “Varied Vases,” inspired and co-designed by my wonderful upline, Mary Fish.

Varied Vases - Share What You Love - Coastal Cabana - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

The card is constructed with a card base of Thick Whisper White card stock and then a panel from the beautiful “Share What You Love” Designer Series Papers, available now in the “Gotta Have It All” bundle.  Click HERE to see more info on all three levels of bundles!  Did you know these special papers are not only beautifully pearlized, but are as thick as regular cardstock?  This extra thickness gives us even more versatility with the papers.  Consider using it as your card base, all by itself, so the receiver can see both sides of this beautiful paper!

I used Black Memento ink to stamp a ‘still shot’ of the three vases and flowers.  This stamp set will give you so many options!  Did you know there’s a PUNCH to go along with this cute stamp set?  All will be available June 1.  Get it on your Wish List now!

I shaded in the flowers and vases using my aqua painter pen and So Saffron, Lemon Lime Twist, Coastal Cabana, and Powder Pink ink pads.

Varied Vases - Close Up - Share What You Love - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I stamped and punched a single vase to give my card even more ‘pop!’  The new (returning) color of Coastal Cabana is already becoming one of my favorites.  I set my vase panel off-kilter against a panel of Coastal Cabana card stock.  I finished the card with some Basic Rhinestone embellishments.

I wish all you wonderful mothers a beautiful day!!  Click on the “Let’s Go Shopping” button above to get yourself a little extra treat!

Catch the Petal Passion!

Oh, how I loved this Petal Passion Designer Series Paper from the 2018 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. I’ve loved working with it, but it’s now onto the Stampin’ Up! Retiring Products List, and only available while stocks last through May 31st.

Petal Passion

The three main reasons I loved it, were:

  • It is a great neutral paper as a black and white, but this one for me was particularly useful because the contrast of the black was toned down quite a bit by the sketch look of the images, so there is actually quite a lot of softer grey in there too;
  • It has a floral / nature theme which is my favorite paper themes;
  • It was FABULOUS to color with Stampin’ Blends ( 11 fabulous new colors in light and dark are coming June 1st!)
  • It coordinates beautifully with the Petal Palette bundle (carrying over to the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog, but only available at the 10%  bundle price until May 31st.

So as you can see, it is super versatile. Here are a couple of cards I made with this beautiful paper.  For this card, I have just used different colors of the Stampin’ Blends to color flowers on the paper.

Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' Palette Paper

And here’s another:

Petal Passion Designer Series Paper - Courage - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

It’s so fun to see what a different background card stock and ribbon will do.  It brings an entirely different feel to it.

With this one, I only colored some of the paper and left the rest in black and white.

Petal Passion Designer Series Paper - Stampin' Blends - What a Day - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

Finally, I made some cards using the black and white Designer Series Paper AS IS!

Petal Palette - Berry Burst - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

Check out the links at the end of this post, and don’t miss out on the beautiful Petal Passion paper pack, along with the coordinating embellishments and Memories and More pack (only available while stocks last or May 31st) and bundle pricing on the Petal Palette bundle (ends May 21st).

If you shop online with me with an order over $50, don’t forget to use the May Hostess Code ( FZ2DPNTR) for a free gift in June from the brand new catalog! Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a fabulous Saturday.

Retiring Butterfly Basics

I had a lot of fun focusing on a lovely stamp set with coordinating thinlits dies that is soon retiring.  This set is a keeper, and I want to make sure you get your hands on it before it becomes unavailable.

Butterfly Basics - Share What You Love - Grapefruit Grove - Hold On to Hope - Up North Stampin'

Butterfly Basics is a lovely set with a fern and flower stamp, the patterned butterfly stamp, and couple of textured stamps.  The coordinating dies include a large and small intricate butterfly, as well as an outline butterfly.

The Designer Series Paper comes from the “Share What You Love”: bundle, and is coordinated in this card with the new Grapefruit Grove ink and the classic Tranquil Tide ink.  The sentiment comes from the Hold On To Hope stamp set that is carrying over into the new Annual Catalog.  Shop any of these products by simply clicking below.  DO NOT let Butterfly Basics slip through your fingers, because it is a classic, and it’ll be an expensive set to find later, once it retires!
