April Pals Blog Hop: Masculine Cards!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month’s theme is “Male Room.” The Pals hope to inspire you with their masculine card ideas and paper craft creations using Stampin’ Up! products. Links to the participant’s blogs can be found at the end of each post to help you “hop” along!

Here is my masculine birthday card, a fun fold pop up card. It looks like this on the outside:

And then opens up to this:

The bottom flap of the card folds up and under the top ‘cap’ in order to close the card, and when you open it, the sentiments ‘pops up!’ Thanks to Sunny Day Stamping for the pop-up card layout. It’s really fun to make, and the possibilities are endless! Here are the measurements and materials needed:

  • Basic Black:
    • Card Base: 3 ¾” x 9 ¾”
    • Score at 5 ¼”
    • Top ‘Cap’ of the card: 4 ¼” x 2 ½”, score at 1 ¼”
    • I also used a rectangle of B. Black for the white-embossed sentiment on the inside
  • Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper:
    • Front Panel: 3 ½” x 4 ¼”
    • Front Strip for ‘cap’: 4” x 1”
    • Panel for the back of the inside of card: 3 1/4 x 4 3/4″
  • Gray Granite:
    • Pop-Up Insert: 3 ½” x 9 ¼”, score at 5”
  • Ribbon or Baker’s Twine: 24”

The Beautiful Gallery DSP contains so many gorgeous designs, many of which can be used for more masculine-feel projects. The pattern I used is one such design, with Basic Black, Gray Granite, and Slate Gray hues. Start by folding the card base up at the score mark so the shorter end is on top, and the fold of the card is toward you.

Adhere the front panel of DSP to the front of the card. Adhere the DSP strip to the front of the Basic Black cap piece. Fold the cap piece over the top of the card base. Adhere the cap to the back of the card base so it will cover the top of the card.

Take the inside Gray Granite piece, fold at the score, and make your slits as specified here:

  • With folded edge at top, cut a ¾” slit at 1 ½” and 2”
  • Score at base of slit, and then ‘pop out’ to make a little square You will create a popped-up square on which you will adhere your popped-up sentiment. Please see the green dotted square below:

Stamp the sentiment toward the bottom of the panel, and then adhere the Gray Granite inside panel to the card base by lining up both score lines.

Create your popped-up element, whether it be a sentiment panel like mine, a stamped diecut, or whatever shape you want to pop up! Adhere the back of the pop-up piece to the little square pop-up and make sure it all folds properly. Add some bling to the front of the card as desired.

Tie a length of baker’s twine around the top so the card will stay closed when you tuck the bottom half of the card under the cap. You are done!
