Wishing for Spring with Three Daisy Cards!

I am (im)patiently waiting for the weather to improve and the temps to get a little warmer up here in Northern Minnesota.  We are right on the edge — I can feel it,  but we need some sun and heat!  Today I quickly created three cards using the Medium Daisy Punch and the Daisy Punch — why??  Because I cannot wait for daisies to start popping up in our gardens, and because there’s nothing easier than a punch to make some fun and springy cards.  Here are the three cards I made!

Daisy Lane - So Sentimental - Stitched So Sweetly Dies - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'Daisy Punch - Daisy Lane - Stitched So Sweetly Dies - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'Medium Daisy Punch - Stitched So Sweetly Dies - Flirty Flamingo - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

Each of these cards can easily be replicated using colors of your choice.  I just wanted to show you how quickly they can be created.  EVERYONE needs a cheery daisy in their lives right now!

Daisy Punch - Medium Daisy Punch - Stitched So Sweetly - So Sentimental - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

The common denominator in these cards are the Stitched So Sweetly Dies — it doesn’t matter WHAT stamp set you use — these dies are going to be a favorite for a long time to come!  And the So Sentimental Stamp Set was custom made for the dies! Here’s the bundle:

Everything You Need to Know About Embossing Folders!

Here are FIVE tips to ensure you get the most out of your Stampin’ Up! embossing folders!

#1 WHICH EMBOSSING FOLDER TYPE AM I USING? There are three types of folders that have been offered by Stampin’ Up!  It is helpful to know what type of folder you have so you know what type of sandwich you will need.

  • TYPE 1: 3D Embossing Folders (Current)
    Approximately 1/8″ Total Thickness
  • TYPE 2: Standard Embossing Folders (Current)
    Approximately 1/16″ Total Thickness
  • TYPE 3: Dynamic Embossing Folders (Retired, June 2019)
Approximately 3/16″ Total Thickness (*Sizzix Branded THICK Folder)

Click here to see ALL the embossing folders currently for sale at Stampin’ Up!

#2 BUILDING THE PROPER SANDWICH:  Each type of embossing folder requires a different sandwich when passing through a die-cutting and embossing machine.

  • TYPE 1: 3D Embossing Folders
      • Top – 3D Embossing Folder Plate (Blue)
      • Middle – 3D Embossing Folder 1/8″ Thick
      • Bottom – Standard Platform

      • Top – Standard Cutting Plate
      • Middle – Shim of Cardstock or Similar Approx 1/16″ Thick
      • Middle – 3D Embossing Folder 1/8″ Thick
      • Bottom – Standard Platform
  • TYPE 2: Standard Embossing Folders
      • Top – Standard Cutting Plate
      • Middle – Standard Embossing Folder 1/16″ Thick
      • Middle – Standard Cutting Plate
      • Bottom – Standard Platform
  • TYPE 3: Dynamic Embossing Folders
      • Top – Standard Cutting Plate
      • Middle – Dynamic Embossing Folder 3/16″ Thick
      • Bottom – Standard Platform

The new 3D Embossing Folder Plate (Item 149658) makes up the difference in measurement between our old-style Dynamic Folders (Type 3 Above) and our new-style 3D Folders (Type 1 Above) in 21 mm gap machines (similar to the machine we used to offer).

The 3D Embossing Folder Plate (blue) replaces the Standard Cutting Plates (clear) in your 3D embossing folder sandwich for continued high-quality emboss results.

The 3D Embossing Folder Plate is sturdy like your platform base.  It doesn’t show wear and will rarely, if ever, need to be replaced. Definitely worth the investment!

#4 REPLACEMENT CUTTING PLATES ARE AVAILABLE!  I label my plates “embossing”  and dedicate them just for that purpose.  This keeps them flat longer and no “cut” line transfers like you typically get on plates used for dies.

The Cutting Plates have beveled edges so they’re easier to feed into the machine.  Made of high-quality polycarbonate.

Give your card stock a little spritz of H2O prior to zipping it through a die-cutting and embossing machine tucked inside an embossing folder.  This helps soften the card stock fibers and allows the embossing folder to do its job even better.

The Stampin’ Spritzers come in a pack of 2! Keep on hand for water and use the other to add color to your projects!

Stampin’ Up!’s Honey Bee, Painted Poppies, Peaceful Moments, Bonanza Buddies, & Grace’s Garden Dies are BACK!

Yippee!!!  Most of the dies from the January-June 2020 Mini Catalog are back in stock and have been turned on for ordering!!!  If you’ve been waiting to get any of these bundles (and I know that MANY of you have been!), you can order them now!!

How do YOU Unwind?

I had a wonderful Easter Sunday, albeit very different!  I missed loved ones we couldn’t be with, but it was a nice day of reflection and rest.  I spent a little time in the afternoon experimenting with some new product:  the Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Papers.  Wow, are they beautiful!  Notice how one side of the papers show off a beautiful floral pattern, and the other side has gorgeous gold foil patterns, some of which you can color!

Happy Easter to You!

Hello, friends!

Just a quick note to wish you all a blessed and Happy Easter.  I’m sure you’re spending a quite different holiday than usual, as we are here at my house; nevertheless, I hope you’re safe and enjoying the warmth of love all around you.

Fable Friends - Best Dressed Designer Series Paper - Petal Pink - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

We’re doing a ‘meal share’ with my parents and my husband’s aunt — they’re all 84 years old, and are isolating.  We are each in charge of a few meal ‘courses,’ and will do a food exchange outside of their houses.  I’m including this card with each of our meal deliveries!

I used one of my favorite spring stamp sets, Fable Friends, along with the Stitched Nested Labels Dies to create my little bunny scene.  The paper is from the “Best Dressed” Designer Series Papers — such pretty spring florals!

Wishing a wonderful Easter to you and yours!  Mary

Pals Blog Hop: A Special Occasion!

Welcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! While the COVID 19 pandemic is adding stress to our lives, we Pals hope this blog hop will help to lift your spirits. Let us inspire you to take a creative break and relax for a little while. This month our theme is “Special Occasions,” where we have made a project for just about any occasion you can think of! You’ll find the full line-up below to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

As a teacher, I always think of Spring as the time of GRADUATION, which is my featured special occasion today! With all the distance learning in place, our school is scrambling to come up with an alternate commencement event for our seniors.  I do feel bad that all of their dreams about attending graduation have been put on hold.  Regardless, I will have several graduation cards to create for some special students.

Peaceful Moments Bundle - Perennial Essence Vellum - Dressed Up Tassels - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I wanted to create a pretty, feminine card that could be used for a high school or even a college graduation.  This card uses a base of Pretty Peacock with a couple of strips of Petal Pink cardstock added to the border for some visual variety.  Over the base, I added a panel of the lovely Lily Pad Designer Series Paper, now gone with Sale-A-Bration.  I really wanted to use up the little I had left, and these rich colors are perfect for the young lady for whom I made this card.

Peaceful Moments Bundle - Perennial Essence Vellum - Dressed Up Tassels - Slanted - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I used the Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock in Petal Pink to cut out a swirl from the die in the Peaceful Moments Bundle.  This bundle has become my go-to for so many occasions, and is one of the most popular in our January-June Catalog:

Painted Poppies Bundle

The graduation cap is made from two punches, the Tailored Tag Punch and the Balloon Bouquet punch.  I got the design of the Pretty Peacock Kirsteen Gill of Creatin’ with Kirsteen. This is her illustration of how to make one…so clever, and I never would have thought of it!

Two punches

I popped the cap onto the vellum with Dimensionals, but not before I tucked a Dressed Up Tassel behind the cap with a couple of glue dots so the ring would not show very much.  I think it worked, do you?  And I loved that it coordinated with the other Petal Pink accents!

Peaceful Moments Bundle - Close up - Perennial Essence Vellum - Dressed Up Tassels - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I stamped the “Congratulations” sentiment from the Peaceful Moments Bundle using Pretty Peacock ink onto a scrap of Petal Pink paper.  I cut it out one of the sentiment dies, and used Dimensionals on it as well.  I added some Enamel Dots, and I was done!

Peaceful Moments Bundle - Black Background - Perennial Essence Vellum - Dressed Up Tassels - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 13th, when we will say “Goodbye to January Mini and 2019 Annual Catalog and/or Hello to 2020 Annual Catalog.” The Design Team will showcase their favorites from the retiring catalogs or new products from the new catalog. Don’t miss the fun! And, until then, please stay safe.
