Pals October Blog Hop: Wicked Folds!

octojber blog hop

Welcome to the Pals October 2018 Blog Hop. It’s a spooky time of year so watch out for “Wicked Folds” while you hop from blog to blog. We promise not to be too scary.

You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Joyous Noel Designer Series Paper - Pretty Pines bundle - Peaceful Noel Bundle - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

This fun fold layout is borrowed from the talented Angie Leach.   The card starts with a 12″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Designer Series Paper scored at the 1-3/4″, 4-3/4″ and 7-3/4″ marks.  Fold the DSP accordion-style so that it shows the patterns you want to be showing and crease with a Bone Folder.  To give the card some stability, I adhered the back onto a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Tranquil Tide cardstock.  I also secured the front-most flap to the next fold with SNAIL to make a sturdier front flap for the sentiment.

Any of the Joyous Noel DSP would be suitable to use for this card — the backs are as gorgeous as the fronts!  Look at the beautiful copper foil touches!

Joyous Noel DSP

The Sentiment—I used the new stamp set called “Winter Woods” for the sentiment.  The fonts are beautiful!  I used Merry Merlot ink onto a 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock, then mounted it onto a 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″ layer of a Merry Merlot with SNAIL and popped it up onto a 3″ x 3″ Copper Glimmer paper layer from the Joyous Noel Designer Series Paper.  The whole sentiment piece was adhered onto one half of the front card flap.  Remember not to get adhesive on the right side of the front layer, as the right half  isn’t adhered to anything and opens to the inside of the card.

Joyous Noel Designer Series Paper - Pretty Pines bundle - Peaceful Noel Bundle 2 - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

Pretty Pines –  I cut out a couple of pine branches from the Pretty Pines Thinlits in Tranquil Tide, and a pinecone in copper foil and pinecone back in Soft Suede card stock. They were attached with Glue Dots and adorned with a bow made from the Merry Merlot and Copper 5/8″ Reversible Ribbon.  Before I made the bow, I cut the length of ribbon in half lengthwise to make it thinner.

Inside The Card—The card pulls open like a Z-Fold card, and I added a 2-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White on the inside for the message.  I love the way I can see both sides of this beautiful DSP!

Favorite #5:  P.S. You’re the Best! Stamp Set

I loved this stamp set from the minute I saw it.  I’m not sure why, but I think it had to do with the fact that I learned to type in high school with a typewriter.  Do our young people have any idea what that was like?  I doubt it haha!  This set has some fun graphics and darling little sentiments that can stamp onto the typewrite paper.  So cute!  Here’s a card I made:

The 12″ x 12″ Cardstock is a great bargain.  Don’t forget that you can create SIX front panels at 4″ x 5 1/4″ from one piece of 12 x 12 card stock, and have a strip left for sentiment banners.  That is very economical.

The Very Vanilla and Whisper White notecards are a sometimes-forgotten workhorse.  Notecards do go through the mail with a regular stamp, and are the perfect size for thank-you cards and gift enclosures as well!

September Paper Pumpkin – Spooky Sweet!

My September Paper Pumpkin Kit arrived from Stampin’ Up! and I couldn’t wait to put some together.  This month the kit is called “Frights & Delights” and the kit created 24 cute Halloween treat bags!

September Paper Pumpkin Three - Mary Hanson

There were enough supplies to create 8 of each little treat bag and tag! Aren’t they cute?

Spooky Stamp Set

The kit also contained the exclusive Frights & Delights photopolymer stamp set and a Basic Gray Stampin’ Spot.  I filled my bags with candy corn, but you can put whatever you’d like in yours!

Check out the cute decorator cello bags — there are three different designs!

A Fall Bouquet with Copper Bling

I couldn’t wait to try a new product from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog:  the Bright Copper Shimmer Paint.  There are many techniques you can use with this paint, and I’ll be trying each of them.  Here is my project:

First Frost - Colorful Seasons - Bright Copper Shimmer Paint - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I used the Gray Granite cardstock to make a card base, and then cut a piece of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper — any wood grain you like is fine!  I took the bottle of Bright Copper Shimmer Paint and shook it, pouring out a dime size dollop onto an acrylic stamping block.  I then used the leaf stamp from Colorful Seasons and inked it up, spreading the pain out on the block and covering the stamp in a light coat.  I stamped directly onto the wood-grained paper.  I repeated this step to create a background of copper leaves.  So fun!  It takes only a few minutes to dry.

I used a scrap of Gray Granite to stamp the sentiment from a new stamp set called Flourish Filagree.  I love this stamp set because it coordinates with the Pretty Label Punch – so easy!  I love a punch!  Remember this one?

Flourish Filagree

Pretty LabelSo I punched out the sentiment after having stamped it with Cajun Craze.  I took some Whisper White Thick cardstock and stamped some flowers of both sizes in Mango Melody, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze, and then cut them out with my Big Shot.  I used the Joyous Noel 6 x 6 Glimmer paper in the copper color to cut out some small berry elements as well.  From here, all I had to do was build my Fall Bouquet onto the background of shimmery copper.

First Frost Close Up - Bright Copper Shimmer Paint - Filagree - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I made a bow using the 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim and frayed the ‘tails’ of the bow before adhering with a glue dot.  And done!  I love the effect of the copper paint.
