Pals’ October Blog Hop: The Color Purple!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month, the theme is The Color Purple. We really hope that you will be inspired by all the amazing creations the Pals are sharing with you! Then, you will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

What fun to use all the pretty shades of PURPLE that we have in our Stampin’ Up! ink colors. I decided to focus on Fresh Freesia and Blackberry Bliss — I hope you agree that they come somewhere within the PURPLE family! I have recently enjoyed creating cards using this three-flap fun fold. It’s so easy, and yet it’s a design with so many possibilities.

Here are some details about the card:

  • I used Blackberry Bliss for the base.
  • Card base:  8 1/2”x 5 1/2,” score 2 1/8” from each side (turn and flip to other side—folds will meet in center like a gatefold.)
  • 3 cardstock flaps in Fresh Freesia: 3 @ 3 7/8”x 1 5/8”—2 flaps will be adhered to the left side and 1 flap on the right side.  Adhere the top and bottom pieces to the left fold.  Adhere the middle piece to the right side of the base.
  • 3 Delightful Floral DSP: 3 @ 3 3/4”x 1 1/2”—adhere these to the cardstock flaps.
  • Inside white mat: 3 3/4”x 5”

I cut out a flower from the DSP to adhere.  I used a sentiment from the Inked & Tiled stamp set, along with Blackberry Bliss ink, to create a small sentiment banner that I tucked behind my flower. I then used some glitter to make it sparkle! I know, I know, you’re either a glitter fan, or you’re not! I used some Fresh Freesia ink from the ink pad and ran my white baker’s twine across the ink pad to create matching baker’s twine!

I finished with some Tinsel Gems in Fresh Freesia, and I was done. All the products I used to create this card can be found at the bottom of this post. By the way, thanks to Karin Braxton for the inspiration!

Here’s the bundle with all those beautiful dies and sentiments:

I tried a couple of other PURPLE cards using the same layout:

My favorite set of Designer Series Papers in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog is the “Masterfully Made,” an artistic and unique set that reflects the look of torn papers. Here’s a project I made recently using these papers:

I used a Basic White cardstock to create an A2 card base of 8 1/2″ by 5 1/2″, scored at the 4 1/4″ mark. I cut Take a look at these beautiful papers and just think of all the fun things you could do with these ‘torn papers.’

Winter Meadow Designer Papers: Back in Stock, and So Pretty!

The Winter Meadow Suite Collection was the first I thing I ordered from the new Stampin’ Up! Mini Catalog. The papers are gorgeous, the sentiments are so pretty, and the colors of the collection really sang to me! Here’s a sample I made:

In the case of this card, the paper steals the show, and you don’t really have to do much else. Aren’t they beautiful?

I started with a card base of Orchid Oasis, and then cut a panel of Winter Meadow DSP at 5 1/4″ by 4″. I used the Naturally Gilded 12″ by 12″ Specialty DSP to cut out a few foliage pieces from the beautiful dies.

Here’s the bundle with all those beautiful dies and sentiments:

I cut out two of the smaller dies from the Deckled Circles dies (have you gotten yours yet? What a staple!), one in Orchid Oasis, one in Basic White. I stamped a sentiment in Orchid Oasis ink and adhered both circles to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I used liquid glue to glue the foliage pieces to the card front, and then added a bow and one embellishment from the Faceted Gems Trio Pack. All the products I used for this card can be found below. Just click on one to start shopping with me!

A Lattice Card with Two-Tone Flora!

I recently tried a lattice card to use in our Stamping Club. The lattice cards have been very popular lately, and it really was a lot easier than I thought it would be!

  • Thick White Cardstock 4 1/4” by 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
  • With your trimmer, cut 3 1/4” off the bottom of one side of the card.
  • With the piece you just trimmed off, cut strips in 1/2” lengths, and cut the last piece into two 3/8″ strips. I embossed the strips by putting them all into the Timber 3D Embossing Folder to give them a ‘wood’ look.
  • Lay the card out with the short side up, and then put a strip of washi tape down the back of that short side, sticky side up. Then place the horizontal planks you just cut down the washi tape at an even distance from each other to create the fence, and then the two smaller planks with glue going down the two sides of the card vertically to keep the whole card together.
  • The colored cardstock panel that goes onto the back of the card front is 4 1/4″ by 3 1/2” and was simply affixed with adhesive to create a solid looking front that wasn’t see-through.

I stamped a number of flowers from the Two Tone Flora Bundle onto scraps of Basic White cardstock, as well as some leaves, and cut them out with the coordinating dies. I stamped a few dots on the top of the card as a background, and then affixed the flowers to the card so they tumble down the fence. I finished with some Brushed Brass Butterflies! Very fun!

I hope you give the lattice card design a try. The video is much easier to understand than my written instructions, and you can find many tutorials on YouTube. Thanks to Kathy for hers!
