This New Stamp Set is “Music to MY Heart!”

Music From The Heart - Mossy Meadow - Copper - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

It’s the one I have been waiting for!  “Music From The Heart” is a new stamp set found in the Spring Mini Catalog, and it speaks to me.  Music has always been an important part of my life, so this set was naturally one of the first I ordered.  Take a look at all the pretty sentiments and modern drawings:

Music from the Heart Stamp Set

The images lend themselves to many occasions — have some fun with them.

I used a Mossy Meadow card base, and a background panel from the Pressed Petals  Designer Series Papers.  On a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock, I stamped the piano images, a heart note, and the sentiment using Mossy Meadow ink.  I tore the edges of the sentiment panel.

I then cut a strip of glimmer paper from the retired Joyous Noel glimmer papers — I loved the copper look against the Mossy Meadow card stock.  I finished the card by adding a few assorted sequins.  An easy and fun card using a brand new set that speaks to the HEART!

Pals Blog Hop: Time To Sale-A-Brate!

Blog Hop BadgeWelcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here because it’s “Time to Sale-A-Brate!” We’re showcasing our favorite new products from 2020 Sale-A-Bration brochure. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Because I haven’t yet received a stamp set from the gorgeous Sale-A-Bration brochure, today I am featuring my favorite products from the Spring Mini Catalog instead — the Painted Poppies Bundle.  For my card, I wanted to recreate a field of poppies against a background of green, kind of like this painting I found:

Screen Shot 2020-01-06 at 9.01.48 PM

Needless to say, here’s my project:

Peaceful Poppies Suite - Bouquet - Portrait Mode - Mary Hanson - Up north Stampin'I started with a basic Whisper White Thick card base folded to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″, a panel of Old Olive at 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, and a panel of Shimmery White cardstock measured at 5 1/4 x 4″.

On the Shimmery White panel, I created a color-washed background using my Aqua Painter and some Old Olive ink.  To do this, I wet the paper with the aqua painter, and liberally spread ink back and forth until I achieved a wash of green. I let this dry for awhile.

Peaceful Poppies Pals Blog Hop - Flat - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

I then stamped a number of leaves onto the background of washed color in Old Olive. Next I stamped a variety of poppies on some Whisper White scraps, using Petal Pink, Poppy Parade (love that color!) and Grapefruit Grove.  The two-step stamps make beautiful poppies, and don’t worry about lining up the stamps directly over each other — they’re not perfectly aligned.  Experiment with ‘stamping off’ sometimes, to create varied flower hues. I stamped some leaves in Old Olive ink on Whisper White as well.

Here’s the beautiful stamp set and dies from the new Spring Occasions Catalog:

Painted Poppies Bundle

I then did some die cutting.  I cut out all the poppies, both styles, the leaves, and also a decorative border from the dies in Old Olive cardstock.  To put it all together, I simply built a bouquet on top of the washed background, popping some poppies up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Peaceful Poppies Suite Close Up - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

To make the sentiment, I stamped one of the lovely sayings from the Peaceful Moments Cling Stamp Set in Old Olive ink. I used the Timeless Label Punch to punch out the sentiment, trimming the top and bottom edges slightly, and then using Dimensionals to adhere to the card.  I love every one of the sentiments in this set!

Peaceul Poppies Suite - black - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson

To add the finishing touches, I used some Baker’s Twine and (retired) Old Olive ribbon tied together in a bow.  (I do have new ribbon on my wish list!)  I added some pretty sequins, and done!  The list of all the wonderful products I used for this project are found at the bottom of this post.

Pals Blog Hop: It’s a Retirement Fun Fold Party!

2019 DecemberWelcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here because we made some great projects for our Retirement Fun Fold Party  – showcasing our favorite products from the Holiday Catalog that will be leaving us forever. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Today, I chose to feature the holiday bundle  “Cup of Christmas” with a fun fold called the Shadow Box card.  Since it is retiring, I wanted to show the versatility of this bundle; this card shows how the bundle can be used for a ‘get-well’ card or ‘thinking of you’ card as well as for the holidays.

Cup of Christmas Bundle - Shadowbox - tree - First Frost - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I actually got the video pattern for this fun fold from Marsha Denning.  Her video tutorial can be found HERE.  Thank you, Marsha!

According to her directions, I took two panels of cardstock and cut them at 6 1/4″ by 5 1/2. I then scored on the 6 1/2″ side at 1/2″ and 1″ on both ends.  I folded the scores in and out like an accordion.  I then took the top panel of cardstock and used the Rectangle Stitched Dies to make a rectangle cut in the middle of the panel to create my shadowbox.  This was the framelit I used:

Rectangle Stitched Framelits

When put together, these two panels make an ‘accordian-style’ shadowbox frame that becomes your card.  Before putting the two halves together, I put a panel of Perennial Essence and adhered it to the bottom panel.  I then adhered the two halves of the card together.  The video makes it much easier to understand, believe me!  Here’s what it looks like from the bottom.

Cup of Cheer bundle - shadowbox card - bottom - First Frost - Perennial Essence - Mary Hanson - up north stampin'

Time for some die cutting! I cut out two cups from the Cup of Christmas bundle, one in Whisper White and one in Petal Pink, and added some fun diagonal pattern with the diagonal die from the same color.  You can put your cups together in any combination you’d like!  I also cut out the leaf die in Garden Green from the Christmas Layers Dies.

Cup of Christmas Bundle - Shadowbox Card - close up - First Frost - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin

Then I did some stamping!  On the white cup, I stamped a sentiment from the Cup of Christmas stamp set in Rich Razzleberry, and then added some fun small sequins.  This stamp set has many fabulous sentiments, depending upon your occasion, don’t you agree?

Cup of Christmas Bundle

I also stamped some flowers from the First Frost stamp set in Petal Pink and Rich Razzleberry and then cut them out with my die cutter.

Cup of Christmas Bundle - White background - Perennial Essence DSP - First Frost - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

To put it all together, I adhered the leaf die to one side of the frame.  Next I adhered the two cups at their ends, and then attached them to the outside frame of the card over the leaf die.  I added the die cut flowers. A bow with some baker’s twine, and I was done! Remember, when folded flat, this card fits an A2 envelope, so it’s a piece of cake to send in the mail!

I hope you enjoyed seeing a softer, more feminine version of a project made with the fabulous (and RETIRING!) Cup of Christmas Bundle.  Get yours NOW!!  The products I used to make this card can be found at the end of this post.
