Pals April Blog Hop: Families First

2018-pbh-combo4Welcome to the Pals April  2018 Blog Hop. Join us while we put “Families First” in our hop this month. The Stampin’ Pretty Pals will inspire you with family-related projects like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation or Family Vacations. You may be just starting or hopped over from another Pal. In either case, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

I have a special graduation card to share with you today! My daughter Abby is graduating from a North Dakota State University this early May, with a major in Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Health.  She’s thinking about becoming a Physician’s Assistant.  We’re so excited to see what her next adventure might be!  This card was designed for her graduation.

Right Picture Perfect Birthday - Graduation - Petal palette Designer Series Paper

North_Dakota_State_BisonThe school colors (Go, Bison!) are Green and Gold, so I used the Stampin’ Blends in Old Olive and Daffodil Delight to color a floral background on a beautiful panel of black and white Petal Passion Designer Series Paper.  The large flower reminds me of a college ‘mum!’  Yes??  I mounted this 3 7/8″ by 5 1/8″ floral panel to a piece of Basic Black cardstock measuring 4″ by 5 1/4″.  Finally, I adhered these to an Old Olive card base measuring 8 1/2″ by 5 1/2,” scored at 4 1/4.”

Close Up Angled - Picture Perfect Birthday - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I created the sentiment using the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies with Whisper White and Basic Black cardstock.  Then I made a party noisemaker by embossing gold stripes on Basic Black cardstock using the Picture Perfect stamp and fussing cutting it.  The ‘head’ part of the noisemaker was made with gold embossing powder on white.  I tied a small gold Mini Tinsel Trim around it and shredded the ends to add a little dimension.  Finally, I added some Gold Glitter Flakes across the card, because my girl likes her sparkles, just like her mama!  It looks beautiful when the sun catches it!

I am “Green with Envy!”

As the Stampin’ Pals attend OnStage without me, (yes, I’m pouting just a little, even though I did get to attend last year), I took part in the “Green with Envy” Pals Card Swap recently.  Card Swaps are such a fun way to get wonderful creations from other crafters while sharing your won creation with them!  I chose to create a card using the Sweet Soiree Designer Series Papers.

Sweet Soiree Designer Series Paper - Petal Palette - Butterfly Thinlits - Silver Foil - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' .jpeg

Honestly, what is NOT to love about these beautiful papers teeming with silver foil accents?

Sweet Soiree DSP

They’re GORGEOUS in person, really.  I used two of the paper designs and mounted on a card base of Old Olive card stock.  Before adhering, I wrapped a length of the Berry Burst 3/8′ Metallic Edge Ribbon around the middle of the card.  I stamped a sentiment from the Petal Palette Stamp Set onto Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with the Tailored Tag Punch.  I popped that onto the card with Dimensionals, and decorated with some Basic Rhinestones — you can’t have enough bling!  I adhered a silver foil butterfly I cut out using the Butterflies Thinlits Dies, and that was it!

So even though I was “Green with Envy,” I DID get the opportunity to swap cards with many talented papercrafters!  Thanks, Pals!

Hope you had the Happiest of Days!

I carried over my color scheme and basic layout from yesterday’s card to create a happy and whimsical card from the stamp set “Happiest of Days.”

Happiest of Days - Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper - Up North Stampin' - Mary Hanson - Stampin' Up!

Don’t you love the bright colors?  The card base is made from Bermuda Bay card stock covered with a 5 1/2″ by 4 1/4″ panel of “Bubbles and Fizz” Designer Series Paper.  The yellow layer is a panel from the Tutti-Frutti Cards and Envelopes, a free offering from the Sale-A-Bration brochure when you spend over $50 in SU! product.

I stamped the presents and sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and proceeded to have some fun coloring with my new Stampin’ Blends markers.  I added some Wink of Stella to put a sparkling touch on the fun little gifts!  Which one do you like the best?

Happiest of Days - Close Up - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

The 3/8″ chevron ribbon in Bermuda Bay and a couple of Tutti Frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins finished off my card.  So fun, and these colors — yummy!  Shop with me by clicking on the products below or by selecting the “Let’s Shop” button above!

Waterfront Stamp Set: Not Just for Mountains Anymore!

I had fun with a CASE’d card by Amy Koenders that features the fun ‘sherbet’ colors!  This is a feel-good card that brings me right out of this dreary winter weather to the beach.  Which little cabana are YOU in?  I think I’m in the Peek-A-Boo Peach one!

Waterfront - Beach - Bubbles and Fizz Designer Series Paper - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

Hard to believe that this card is created from the very same stamp set that created this one:

occ18_p48c

Both the beautiful watercolored mountain scenes and the beach scenes are made from the Water Front stamp set, found in the 2018 Occasions catalog:

Waterfront stamp set

The stamping was so fun — I built the beach scene using the stamps above on a piece of scalloped Whisper White card stock, actually ‘contraband’ left over from the January Paper Pumpkins.  Any white panel will do, or a circle shape works great, too!  I mounted the scene on a panel of card stock from the Sale-A-Bration Tutti Frutti cards and envelopes, and then onto the card base made from the Bubbles and Fizz Designer Series Papers.  Cute!

I embellished the card with some Pool Party baker’s twins and a couple of the Tutti Frutti Adhesive-Backed Sequins — boy, do I love those!  So bright and sparkly, and they STICK on their own!

And there you have it —  a fun beachy scene on a cold and snowy winter night!  I hope you had a great holiday weekend!

A Blank Slate with Petal Passion DSP & Stampin’ Blends!

What happens when you take a beautiful piece of black and white paper, add Stampin’ Blends, and your imagination?  A WHOLE LOT OF FUN, that’s what!

Petal Passion Designer Series Paper - Stampin' Blends - What a Day - Petal Passion Embellishments - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

I LOVED working with the new Stampin’ Blends in four different colors to color in a part of this beautiful floral design.  And yes, I left some black and white on purpose — is it bothering anyone?  haha These papers are gorgeous works of art:

Petal DSP

I know what you mean! The Blends are new alcohol-based markers that come in two shades — a light and a dark — of 12 different Stampin’ Up! markers.  The shades blend beautifully, and make coloring fun again!

Blends All

I mounted the Designer Series Paper panel on a card base of Rich Razzleberry, and added some ribbon (a little stripe left over from the Holiday Catalog).  The sentiment is from the new Stamp Set  and a bow made from the 3/8″ Basic Black Shimmer ribbon — beautiful.  I finished the project with a Petal Passion Embellishment.

The BEST Bundle in the Occasions Catalog!

Hands down, the Petal Palette Bundle in the Occasions Catalog is an absolute GEM — a keeper in my book!  My craft room will never be without these beautiful stamps and dies.

Petal Palette Berry Burst - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin'

This card comes together so easily!  Stamp the large flower image in Black Memento ink on Whisper White Thick Cardstock.  I used the sponge dauber and some ink from each ink pad to ‘sponge’ the colors onto the floral bouquet.  It’s so easy, and so pretty!

Stamp the sentiment on white cardstock as well, and use the Big Shot to cut out the oval shape around the sentiment.  Mount a 4″ by 5 1/4″ piece of Petal Passion DSP onto a Berry Burst card base, and then build the card from there up.  I absolutely adore working with these beautiful images!

Narrow Notecards & Sweet Soiree DSP

The new Whisper White Narrow Notecards from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog are my new favorite-shaped notecards!  The package comes with 20 notecards and envelopes, and they’re just the right size for a cute birthday or thank-you card.

Narrow notecards - Sweet Soiree Designer Series Paper - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' -

Each of these cards was made by simply adhering a panel of that beautiful shiny Sweet Soiree Designer Series paper to the front of a narrow notecard.  The panel measures 2 1/2″ by 4 1/2″.  After that, I simply added a sentiment using either a punch or a die, including the new Everyday Label Punch, the Triple Banner Punch, or the Stitched Shape Framelits Dies.

I trimmed a small piece of DSP and added each to the flap of the darling envelope to coordinate!  So cute, and a great gift to give to someone you love.  Or send them out yourself!

Lots of Lavender Sneak Peek

Just a few more days until the SU! Occasions Catalog goes live (January 3), and Sale-B-Bration begins!  Here is a sneak peek at a new Sale-A-Bration set called Lots of Lavender, and yes, the best part about this set is that it is FREE with a $50 purchase!

Lots of Lavender 2 - Mary Hanson - Up North Stampin' - Stampin' Up!

I used an embossing folder on a 5 1/4″ by 4″ panel to create wavy texture as a backdrop for my lavender bouquet.  On a 2 1/8″ by 4 1/4″ panel, I stamped the lavender bouquet in Basic Grey ink.  I then started using the two-step stamping process to ‘color’ in the flowers with Wisteria Wonder, the ribbon with So Saffron, and the leaves with Pear Pizzazz.  I used a Paper Pumpkin sentiment for the large Thanks across the bottom.  The two-step stamping makes it so fun and easy to get a watercolor feel to the  bouquet!
