This month, the theme is Last Minute Gifts/Cards to inspire you with your holiday list. We really hope that you will be enjoy all the amazing creations the Pals are sharing with you! We have a fun little Secret Santa exchange in our family, using gifts we make ourselves, and this year, I drew my oldest daughter Katie’s name. She works from home for an online university, and has recently remodeled her home office. We have a ‘budget’ for our Secret Santa gifts, and I had a few $$ left, so I decided to make a last-minute addition to my gift for her.

I had ordered a few of these white double-sided standing frames that can go in a work area, on a kitchen counter, wherever! You can find them HERE at Amazon, and I’m sure at many other places. I wanted something for Katie’s office in the same red that she has painted on an accent wall.

My palette was a 6″ by 4″ Basic White panel of card stock that slides down into the white frame from above. I built a background of warm yellows and reds using the watercolor-like floral stamp from the Artistically Inked stamp set. I stamped the large flower in Bumblebee, So Saffron, and Cherry Cobbler on the bottom of the panel and along the left side, “stamping off” in some areas as well. In addition, I added some ink onto the Water Painter and spritzed onto the flower background to make a more abstract scene.

On a separate scrap of Shimmery White cardstock, I stamped a large sunflower in Bumble Bee. Then I used my Water Painters to paint the sunflower in shades of Cherry Cobbler and Bumble Bee inks. I just kept adding layers of color until I got the effect I wanted. I cut out the sunflower using the outline sunflower die. I then cut a detailed sunflower out with a sheet of Gold Foil. I adhered the foil to the top of the watercolored sunflower, and adhered the entire flower to the front of my white panel. I used my snips to cut a little of the sunflower off the left side to make it fit when I put it in the frame.

Finally I used Cherry Cobbler ink to stamp my sentiment. I realize this stamp is retired — it’s from the Colorful Seasons stamp set. But I HAD to use it for Katie. It was perfect for her office, to remind her to JUST BREATHE, even when she’s in a stressful work situation. By the way, I did cut the long sentiment of the stamp in two, so I could put one word on top of the other.

That was it! I hope you’ll consider this gift idea in the future. The sky’s the limit as you create a 6″ by 4″ masterpiece of your own. Wouldn’t these be nice for teachers’ and caregivers’ gifts? I’ve had so much fun playing with a new set of dies, found in our July-December Holiday Catalog — the Snowman Dies. I’ll be featuring them this week on my blog. Their versatility will become more apparent as you see more of these fun projects!

We recently had a challenge on the Up North Stampin’ Gang Facebook page (have you joined yet?) to create a project using non-traditional colors for the holidays. So I’m throwing a couple out there today. Non-traditional colors are so fun, because they bring a fresh prospective to holiday cards! Here are mine:

The card above is a simple one. I adhered a panel of Celebrate Everything DSP (a host set of DSP!) over a Basic White card base. I cut out a framed piece from the Snowman Dies, and also used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut a panel of Polished Pink to fit underneath it. I adhered the snowflake frame onto the polished pink, but before attaching to the card base, I heat embossed a sentiment from the Framed and Festive stamp set in white embossing powder. I attached the pink panel to the card base, and then just finished it with some Festive Pearls in the silver tones. So easy and bright!

The second card also uses a Basic White Card base. The snowflake frame is cut in Bermuda Bay, and the two fun trees are diecut using Pear Pizzazz. I again used white embossing powder to heat emboss another sentiment from the Framed and Festive stamp set. I placed a couple of sparkly embellishments atop the tree, and my card was done. I like how simple and modern it looks — do you?

My Thinking of You card starts with some beautiful fall paper — I love the black accents with beautiful rich Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow!

I used a Basic Black A2 card base, and then a panel of Cajun Craze. The DSP is cut 1/8″ inch shorter on all sides, and adhered to the Cajun Craze panel. I used a small piece of Gold Foil Sheets to cut a cross-hatched piece from the Chic Dies. I adhered that to the card where my sentiment panel was going to be.

The sentiment was first stamped in Versamark onto the black card stock, and then heat embossed using White Emboss Powder. I simply used a scrap piece of a rectangle and cut it to size.

This card went together so quickly, and is perfect for someone you are thinking about this fall! All the products I used to make this card can be found at the bottom of this post.
